Honey and cinnamon are two ingredients that are commonly found in every Indian household. While cinnamon is used predominantly in cooking, honey is used in a variety of things. The fragrant spice Cinnamon is known to contain calcium, fiber, iron and manganese. The bark of the spice is known to have healing essential oils.

Healing benefits of cinnamon and honey

Let’s start with cinnamon, this is one of my favourite spices and I love to use it in my cooking.  Curries, fragrant rice, this is a must have spice in my kitchen. I wasn’t aware of its healing properties till a chance read of a post made me aware of the benefits it had. The only ways I have used honey was drinking it with warm water as an aid to lose weight and when I was down with a cough or cold, mixing it with raw ginger juice to get rid of the congestion and breathe well. There are more uses to honey that just this! I’ve listed some healing benefits for honey and cinnamon.

7 uses of cinnamon and honey

Slough the dead skin

Mix together one tablespoon of ground cinnamon powder with two fistfuls of sea salt, 3 four teaspoons of almond oil, 1 teaspoon of olive oil, and 2 teaspoons of  honey. Store this in an airtight container or make it as and when required. I prefer the latter!

Get rid of the bad breath

Boil a stick of cinnamon in one cup of water. Gargle with this water. Not only will this soothe the throat muscles, but will also leave you with a better breath!

Detox and let the skin glow

Drink the cinnamon tea regularly to detoxify and get a natural glow to your skin. Boil 3 cups of water with one teaspoon of cinnamon powder or one stick of cinnamon. Let it steep for at least 5 minutes. Add 2 teaspoons of natural honey to it and keep it in the flask. Drink 1/4 cup of this tea at least three to four times a day.

Get rid of acne

Mix two pinches of cinnamon powder with honey and apply on the areas where you have breakouts and acne. Leave it on for 10 minutes and wash off with warm water.

Say bye to fatigue

Mix one teaspoon on honey in a glass of water that is stored in room temperature. Add two – three pinches of cinnamon powder to this and drink it at least once a day to feel refreshed and rejuvenated.

Aids in weight loss

Boil together one cup of water and half a teaspoon of honey for about 2 minutes. Add one teaspoon of organic honey and drink this twice a day –  at least half an hour before you eat your breakfast on an empty stomach and half an hour before you sleep*. When consumed regularly, this drink is known to aid in weight loss.

*check with your doctor before you try this.

 Make a facemask

And would it not be awesome to combine these ingredients to get an awesome facemask. I’ve listed a super easy way of  making this awesome mask.
