I lead a horribly sedentary life with my only exercise regime being the morning walk I indulge in. I had experimented with loads of detox drinks in the summer, but the winter is something different. You need something warm to drink and the cooler versions don’t really work. Listed are two warm drinks that you need to have this winter to keep your body warm and stay healthy. Not just that it has loads health benefits too! Interested to know more? Read on and let’s get ready to detox!
1. The Warm Water and Lemon Drink
All of us have tried this at some point of time in our lives because we were told it the miracle drink is *the drink to lose weight*.
But do you know why you should drink it apart from just being able to lose weight? When you wake up after the 8 hours of sleep, there are high chances that your body is actually dehydrated. Lemon juice contains citric acid that is an important ingredient which can help your body enzymes function. This helps to stimulate the liver and start the process of detox. And you are also drinking water with the juice of a lime, so in that process you are also ensuring that your body gets hydration.
Research states that people who drink lemon water in the morning report that they experience a big mental boost and have increased energy! Wouldn’t you want to be one of them?
The juice of a lemon is loaded with the goodness of Vitamin C and that is good enough to work as a great antioxidant to boost your immunity.
How do you make it?
Simple warm a mug of water and squeeze the juice of one fresh lime into it. Want a variation? Add half a teaspoon of organic honey.
I was introduced to this drink very recently and I must say that I have already incorporated it into my everyday regime. Coriander, Fennel and Cumin Drink. Superbly simple to make, this drink not only strengthens the metabolism and and your immunity but is the best drink in to keep the sluggishness at bay, especially in winter. I have also noticed that it helps me relax.
How do you make this?
This proportion is enough for one mug of the drink. Since I get lazy really fast, I make at least 500 ml of this drink and store it in a flask and pour out how much I want to drink for the first half of the day.
- Boil 500 ml of water and take it off the gas.
- Add the whole cumin, coriander, and fennel seeds. (1 and a half teaspoon each)
- Let these seeds steep in water for at least 5 – 7 minutes. Keep it covered.
- Let the water reach a temperature where you can drink it.
- Strain and pour the quantity you want in a cup and store the rest in a flask to drink it all through the day.
Tip: If you are drinking this for the first time, I suggest that you start with just half a cup, so adjust the measurements accordingly.
What are the amazing benefits of coriander seeds, fennels seeds and cumin seeds?
- Coriander seeds are helps improve the process of digestion, helps curb menstrual irregularities and can help ease a constipation condition.
- Fennel seeds are rich in antioxidants, helps to keep cholesterol at bay, enhances the production of red blood cells, and controls the heart rate and blood pressure.
- Cumin seeds are rich in anti-bacterial properties and can help tackle that lingering common cold and cough because it provides heat to your system. So all the mucous is never stored in your body. Regular consumption of cumin is known to aid in digestion and also keeps nausea and morning sickness at bay.
Now that you know of the awesome health benefits, would you not like to incorporate these into your daily regime?

Hey !
Nice one !
Iam familiar with the lemon drink , however CFC is totally a new concept for me. Thanks !
Btw , would you recommend these two drinks in summers as well ?
And ideally what quantity of lemon drink should we have each morning ?
Actually I had tried it long back , drinking 250 mL every morning , and honestly it was too much for me , and hence I wasn’t able to maintain to take it everyday 🙁
Pratibha says
Anjali, I don’t have more than 150 ml of the warm lemon water. As for the CFC, it is about 700 ml in the first half of the day spread over 3 glasses. I don’t think it should be a problem in the summers either, but the logic is that why would want to drink a warm in the summer heat! So I guess it makes sense to drink cooler stuff in summers and hot drinks in the winter.
Anjali pant says
Ohkay ! I’ll follow the same then. Actually I have read that its always better to have warm water than cool water, even in summers . Yes coolants are required , but one should start his/her day with warm water. For example we all drink tea , no matter how hot it is. Warm water helps in detoxification , plus regulate metabolism and helps to lose weight .
Anyways , this summers I followed pudina-lemon coolant that you had once recommended , and it was amazing 🙂

Dear Pratibha,
Was going through your post on detox drinks. Very informative. These days I hear people discussing a lot about wheat grass-juice or powder, for its health benefits, detoxification, increasing the immunity. Since I have a continuous battle with a fragile immune system I always want to explore anything that comes my way which claims to increase the immunity. What is your take on this wheat grass business. I really look forward to hearing your views on this. Is it some latest fad which will settle down on its own or is it truly beneficial.
Thanks a lot.

Dear Manju,
Thank you for stopping by my blog. I have heard a lot of rave reviews about wheatgrass powder too, but I have never had the opportunity to taste it or try it as yet. I prefer sticking to trusted remedies because they work for me. I have a very fragile immune system too, but with these detox drinks I make and following a regular fitness regime, I am getting back to being fitter 🙂

Hello Manju !
Adding a few words to Prat’s response , I would say that wheatgrass powder is indeed the most sought food supplement these days. Apart from this , Moringa powder is also an effective solution. Infact it is considered a magical plant. You may google their benefits , and honestly you would find yourself speechless. Flaxseeds also form an important part of a daily healthy routine. However , these powders and seeds are not really yummy options. But the point is , that in this fast paced life , it becomes very difficult to follow a healthy diet – green veggies , fruits , juice etc , on a daily basis. Also taking adequate amount of each and everything seems quite impossible to working people , especially the private job people. So in such a situation , I believe these powders surely work as really good add ons. Iam not saying that replace food with these supplements . But , these powders have their own importance.

Dear Anjali,
Thank you very much for the detailed comments. I completely agree with your views. In this fast paced life, I hardly pay any attention to my food and keep on inventing excuses for skipping meals knowing very well that it is going to affect my health only. Possibly these supplements have a bigger role to play in such situations. Thank you for informing about moringa powder, flax seeds etc. I would surely like to explore them.

Most welcome Manju ! 🙂
Actually the drinks that Prats has highlighted here , indeed form an important part of our daily routine. Despite of what we eat and what we do not eat , we should have something daily to detoxify our body. For example , we all eat junk food , in whatever proportion it may be. And junk is not about what we have outside , like samosas , patties etc , but also the bread and noodles that we generally have at home. Also these days , awareness about gluten is very much in. Many people are allergic to gluten and hence are switching to other options like jowar , bajra and quinoa ( a very expensive import ) . So it becomes very important to first examine how our body , particularly our immune system , is behaving and then choosing products according to our requirement. If you feel the need of some extra dosage , you may always go for supplements
Anjali pant says
But yes , do google or consult someone regarding the appropriate dosage of these powders.
Lastly, a good news : Soul Tree has come up with some new products which include face washes , anti dandruff shampoo , tinted lip balms and hair oil. At present ,they are available only at Ecotokri. Prats , I guess you were looking for an anti dandruff shampoo , so you may give it a try. Anyways , Good Night ! 😀
