It goes without saying that if you’re a woman, you have an array of personal care products. For your skin, you have, at the very least, a cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen, and for your hair, a shampoo and conditioner. This is the very basic, and then we have those specific products for our problem areas – acne cream, dandruff oil, night cream and so on.
Now imagine the number of chemicals in each one of these products, which you apply every single day of your life. That’s a lot of chemicals entering your body!
The next step, naturally (pun intended), is to go for a natural personal care brand. We’ve brought you the best of India’s vegan eco-friendly brands in India. While some of the brands are pure vegan, there are some that are either vegan or vegetarian.
Whether you choose the vegan eco-friendly brands in India or the vegetarian personal care brands, one look at the list and you will note that each of the products will have 100& natural ingredients and contain 0% chemicals. It is normal for a brand to have vegan as well as vegetarian products.
What is the difference between Vegan and Vegetarian?
Each brand has a story on why they chose to be vegan and / or vegetarian. They all started with that one small step of seeking natural remedies, free from chemicals, good for us and the earth.
A vegan product would be 100 & pure; made without any animal derivate or ingredients. These animal-derived ingredients include, but is not limited to, honey, beeswax, lanolin, collagen, albumen, carmine, cholesterol, gelatin, and more. These are the commonly used animal derivatives in a product.
To many, the term “vegan” also means that a product is free from animal testing as well. But this may not be the case, as some products can perform animal testing and yet call themselves vegan.
Vegetarian products on the other hand would have vegetarian products in that, but they do not harm the skin. Vegetarian products typically would include use of milk, ghee, clarified butter and more. To put it in a simpler way; a vegan would not use any animal derivatives; but a vegetarian product would use animal derivatives. A vegetarian brand may or may not be free from animal testing.
For a brand to be cruelty-free there should no form of animal testing done at any given time of the production circle.
21 Vegetarian & Eco-Friendly Brands in India
Now that you know the difference in vegan and vegetarian brands let’s have a look at the top vegetarian & eco-friendly brands in India. I have tried most of these vegetarian & eco-friendly brands in India, but there are some that I haven’t tried which I have mentioned in the post. Some of the brands are also vegan.

Juicy Chemistry
While there are several eco-friendly brands for personal care today, Juicy Chemistry is the first Indian company to be certified organic by the Ecocert organization in France. They also have a range of essential oils for aromatherapy and pain relief. While most of the products are vegan, their deodorant and lip butters are the only products that contain beeswax, which makes it also a vegetarian brand. Most of her products are vegan except the lip balms that are vegetarian. Burst of Happyness products use unique ingredients like pink clay, kaolin, lemongrass and others that set apart her brand from the others. Skincare Villa
Skincare Villa was born when a random DIY powder cleanser showed amazing results. Sonali Patil, the founder of Skincare Villa, realized the power of a powder cleanser after her experiment and the first product she made, Oats Almond Cleanser, literally prevented her breakouts. So later on she made many variants to suit all skin types and concerns. Oats Almond Cleanser, Green Tea Mint Cleanser, Ubtan are some of the variants which are best-selling ever since they were launched.
Powder Cleansers don’t require preservatives as such but do have a short shelf life and need extra care for storage too. Unlike foaming cleansers, powder cleansers don’t strip the skin of its sebum in the name of cleansing. Powder Cleansers from Skincare Villa are vegan and free from artificial colour or fragrance.
What I recommend: The powder cleansers. Powder Cleansers can also act as a multi utility product, sufficing the need of a cleanser, mask or scrub. Wow Skin Care
They have an array of skin and hair care products that seem to be storming the market. While I haven’t used any of their products, going by the reviews on Amazon and on Instagram, I see that they have a good rating. I’ll save these products when I am out of my stash for skin and hair care.
What I recommend: If you go by the reviews, most of the products are good, so I would recommend you to choose something that you are comfortable with according to your skin and hair type.
Suganda
Suganda was created by Bindu Amrutham who was on the lookout for pure and safe skin care products for her newborn who had dry, sensitive skin. The result was a company that creates a select range of products made painstakingly from scratch without any harmful chemicals.
