The world of aromas

July 4, 2013 By: Pratibha49 Comments

KitI was introduced to the world of aromatherapy over two years ago when I discovered the goodness of essential oils and diffusers. There has been no stopping after that. I use EO’s and diffusers on a daily basis. Not only is the fragrance calming, but it is one of the best ways to purify your home clearing the stagnant air.

EO’s can be used topically ( applied on the body) and diffused in the air. I use the peppermint oil topically in small quanities to combat the migraine. Most of the other oils are used in the diffuser.

I have been wanting to use the other EO’s from Omved for a very long time.  After a lot of should I or shouldn’t I  buy, I settled for the Aromatherapy Essential Oil Health Set Kit  that is one of the fast selling essential oils.

Kit1

Priced at INR 1290, this set comes with 4 miniature sized bottles of four fragrances.  Each of the bottles contain 4 ml of the essential oil.

1. Nidra – Reduces fatigue and stress. Promotes a fitful sleep

2. Tej  – Promotes alertness of the mind and concentration

3. Sushwasa – Perfect to use when you have a cough or a cold as it helps de-congest and lets you breathe well.

4. Shantam – Reduces stress and promotes a calm mind

Where can I buy this?  You can but this at the Omved Store and Natural Mantra. And if you stay in Mumbai, you can stop by at their stores and buy lots more stuff than just the oils! The only thing that they can improve is the packaging. The cardboard box tends to tear post usage and I have to keep the bottles outside. Even thought I have a dedicated EO holder, I would have still liked it if they had a sturdy packaging. Maybe a small box or a tin that could be reused when the oils are over? Just a thought.

kit2Recommendations are on! Let me get one fact straight here first. Essential oils are expensive. Most EO bottles will be roughly between 6 ml about 10 ml bottles costing INR 300 and above. One bottle of EO lasts a long time, because you need just about a drop or 2 in the diffuser. So even if you used it regularly, one bottle should last you a month.

So if you love warm, calming and uplifting fragrances do give the aromatherapy range from Omved a try. Right from the votives, tin candles, incense sticks and cones, reed diffusers and the EO’s are a delight that will purify the air in your home and actually calm you.

These big sized bottles are 8 ml each and if bought individually, the total cost would have been INR 2050. Instead of buying individual bottles, I chose this set because it was cost-effective. I get to sample 4 fragrances and I can get to choose which one I can repurchase.

I have already purchased the second bottle of the Nidra EO because it is one of the most wonderful fragrances I have ever inhaled. I, for one am a person who has difficulty sleeping. And when it is one of those days when I know there is bound to be a good amount of tossing and turning, I use this oil in the diffuser. The healing aromas calm me and I can actually feel the stress and fatigue decrease. And yes, I sleep well.

I have most of the Sushwasa products. I use them when my boys are ill, right from the candle, to the roll-on, the spritz and the diffuser! The results are remarkable. The Camphor, Ginger, Basil, Balck pepper and Eucalyptus oils diffused in the room help clear the sinuses and help you breathe better.

The tej is what I use in the mornings because it keeps your mind alert.  I am yet to use to Shantam oil, but I have used the candle and loved it so I am sure this wont be a disappointment.

Each time I read your bog about natural room fresheners ( of omved ) , I make up my mind to purchase them. However , all credits to my forgetful memory , I didn’t get to purchase any of them as yet. Well , finally now Iam planning to buy a natural room freshener for my place. But , Iam a little confused that which one I should opt for : Omved’s incense sticks , dhoop or diffuser ( reed / burner ) . Please guide , that out of these three which one would be more effective and long lasting.

Diffuser any day! I use incense sticks, incense cones, loose incense powder ( dhoop ) and EO’s in the diffusers. I love diffusers for many reasons:
      1. the fragrance lasts longer because the EO is diffused in the hair.
      2. One diffuser, many EO’s = I get to choose what fragrance I want for the day
      3. Not messy in comparison to incense sticks and cones that leave behind a residue.
      4. I have the electric variety and the normal ceramic burners, both which look fab at nights, throwing the light against the wall, so it looks beautiful 🙂
      5. You can use a variety of EO’s . I have right from calming, concentration, to help sleep, relax, breathe well to insect repellants as EO’s 🙂

Reed I think is expensive and you have to live with that fragrance till the bottle of the EO gets exhausted. I also need to add that I have never used a reed diffuser.

I use the dhoop powder to cleanse the home at least twice a week. The incense sticks are used in the pooja room. Try the aradhan one, simply brilliant! Dhoop powders I love Nirvat and Shuddhi.

Diffusers, I have the mashaka, sushwasa ( also have the roll on , candle and mist), shantam, caress ( now discontinued), nidra and tej. Buy the one I have reviews, so you get to sample 4 varieties. And use the coupon code to get a 10 % off 🙂

And one bottle of EO lasts really long because you need a max of 2-3 drops.

Great ! You are quite a “Master” when it comes to room freshening with natural aromas! 🙂 Seriously a great help ! Iam planning to buy a diffuser ( burner ) ; which one would you recommend electric/ceramic ? And what is a dhoop powder ? I have just seen a normal dhoop mould.

No master types! I juts love fragrances! 🙂 I don’t know where you get the electric variety, mine were gifts from a friend. Omved has a ceramic burner. Look that up. The well should be deep ( in which you pour water). It should take in at least 3 tablespoons of water ( min) , then the burn time lasts for about 2 – 3 hours. I picked mine from The Nature’s CO.

Well I located a burner at some home stuff shop . The shop person told me that I just need to put a drop of oil on the plate of that burner, and to place a lit candle below it. That’s it. He didn’t mention anything about adding water.

You need to add water to the well in the burner and oil to it. How else will it diffuse? you will burn the oil if you add it directly on the plate 🙁 Whack the guy who gave the incorrect info!

Don’t buy a diffuser online. At a glance, I feel that the well is not deep enough. You need something that will hold at least 3 tablespoons of water.

I sent the link to a diffuser from The Nature’s Co? Pick that one the well is deep enought, but the diffuser is big so what you will need to do is keep an inverted tin candle container and keep a lit candle on it for the flame to reach the base of the well faster. Check your mail. Am sending you a pic.

Haven’t used any tea tree oil ones till now. Try Soulflower? That is one decent brand I can think of if you are looking at a pure tea tree oil. Most of the other brands would have blended it with something else. Like this : http://www.thenaturesco.com/products/Cedarwood-And-Tea-Tree-Balancing-Essential-Oil.aspx?prodid=88&catId=25
