One of my new year resolutions is to take care of my body. Keeping that in mind, I started walking, only to realise that it is fun! I love to walk down short distances to complete the small chores at home, whether it is buying the veggies and fruits or just any errands. When I am walking back home, I indulge in a treat – a glass of sugar cane juice! Add a dash of lime, mint leaves and ginger juice to it and you have a superbly refreshing drink ready that is packed with loads of benefits. For me it is a power packed drink that restores my energy levels and I am ready to tackle the rest of the day!
So what are the sugar cane juice benefits?
Lots! There isn’t just one! Did you know that one glass of sugar cane juice is packed with the trace amounts of calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, zinc, thiamine and riboflavin? It does not contain any vitamins or fibre.
Sugar cane is naturally sweet and one glass of juice can supply an adequate dose of glucose to the muscles that in turn supplies the body with natural power. One glass of sugar cane juice is enough to get rid of the fatigue from heat or any physical activity. I used to be addicted to Red Bull, an energy drink that not just cost a bomb but was also loaded with lots of ingredients that were not good for my body. I’ve been Red Bull free for over half a year and my next target to get over the aerated drinks!
Sugar cane juice is also one of the most preferred summer drinks. I remember loads of summer holidays that were spent drinking this wonderful juice post a session of pitthu. It renewed the energy levels, got rid of our fatigue and we were all ready for some more physical activities! I recently introduced my boys to this drink and whenever we go out, there is utter chaos if we pass the stall and don’t give them a glass of juice! Needless to say, they love it!
Sugar cane juice is also known to help in the treatment of jaundice that is caused due to elevated levels of billirubin in the body fluids and an abnormally poor liver function. People who have contracted jaundice are made to consume one glass of sugar cane juice mixed with a dash of lime juice to aid in speed recovery. The speedy recovery also occurs because of the antioxidants in sugar cane juice that help fight against infections and boost the immune system of the body.
Did you also know that sugar cane juice is very helpful in preventing and treating sore throat, cold and flu? And this is the right drink for diabetics because it contains natural sugar, of course there will be a limit to the intake!
With so much packed in a glass of sugar cane juice, don’t you think it is a healthier option over aerated drinks? And did I mention it has approximately 36 calories for 100 ml? Just one thing though, consume it as soon as the juice is extracted, because the it tends to get oxidized within 15 minutes.
