And I am back after a month of inaction! The horrible cough and cold kept me tired enough to not pay attention to work and now that I am better, here comes a post! With winter comes bouts of lethargy, most of the time the kind of food you eat matters a lot because that is one factor that can manage your energy levels. These easy to follow steps will ensure that you stay healthy in winter!
Stay healthy in winter
1. Eat well
With the winter my diet is limited. And I am prone to illnesses like the one that kept me out of action for almost a month. I realized that one of the most important things was to keep myself fit and include the right food in my diet. Keeping this in mind I recently signed up for a detox program that helps me eat the right food and ensures that I am healthy. I also came across this recipe of a yummy energy snack that is not just easy to make, but also healthy and nutritious. I plan to make a batch of this energy date snacker really soon. You can view the recipe here.
2. Be hydrated
It is but natural to not feel thirsty in this season. Our consumption of water drops drastically because of the cold weather. I have learnt the hard way that consuming less water is not the right thing. Did you know that if you drink a glass of warm water the first thing in the morning, you are very likely to burn those extra calories? Isn’t that an incentive enough for you start drinking more water? If that doesn’t interest you, add some fruits and veggies to the water to make it an interesting drink!
3. Indulge in some exercise
It is important to exercise to keep your body warm and active in the winter. You can do simple yoga stretches and asanas that will help you get active. If you like the outdoors, go for a walk or a run to ensure that you keep your body warm and increases your metabolism. When you exercise outside, especially in the winter, your body body is working harder to keep you warm, this increases your metabolism and helps your body to burn more calories and fat. Isn’t this an incentive enough to work out a little extra this winter?
4. De-stress with meditation
If the year end targets are bogging you down, it is time to relax the frayed nerves with meditation. Meditation has loads of benefits out of out which some are important in the day to day life – starting the day on a positive note, helping you focus, keeping you healthy or just allowing some time for yourself. When you meditate you banish the negative thoughts and focus on your breathing that allows you to relax naturally. Did you know that meditation can do more than soothe away stress? Recent research indicates that meditation can help you boost your immunity levels, keep your blood pressure lower and even reduce PMS symptoms.
5. Eat local produce
When you grow your own vegetables you know how healthy they are because you have nurtured the plants. If you don’t have the green fingers and would like the easy way out, opt for locally and organically grown vegetables. A simple search will give you enough leads on where you can buy the right things to eat. You should also opt for organically grown pulses, lentils and rice so that you eat healthy.
You can also opt to use warming spices like cinnamon, coriander, nutmeg, cloves and turmeric that can help to improve the immune system in the winter season. Most of these spices that will help you reduce inflammation, keep your body warm and build up the immunity levels.
