I have been going through the phase where I have been searching for that one product that my hair will love. While I love the oils and shampoos I use for my hair, I was still looking that *something* which my hair would absolutely love. My prayers were answered post a wait. I received the Pre Shampoo Deep Conditioner from Rustic Art as a part of the hamper that I had won. I have never used a pre-shampoo conditioner and needless to say I was curious and waiting to use this product. There are three ways you can use this pre-shampoo deep conditioner:
- Take the desired quantity and apply on dry hair from roots to the tips. Leave it on for 15 minutes. Wash of with preferably a Rustic Art shampoo.
- Get into the shower. Wet your hair. Take the desired quantity and apply on dry hair from roots to the tips. Leave it on for 2-3 minutes. Wash of with preferably a Rustic Art shampoo. ( I keep it on for at least 5 mins)
- Mix this conditioner with the shampoo you want to use, wet hair, apply from root to the tips. Leave it on for at least 3 minutes.
I have used it the second and third way till now, because I thought applying it in dry hair would use up a lot of the conditioner and I was not willing to sacrifice so much of it! Priced at INR 250, this 200 ml 100 ml ( thank you for the correction Shruti) deep conditioner has a shelf life of 18 months. The first fragrance that you get is predominantly sandalwood. It is white in colour and has a very creamy texture to it. I pumped out the quantity that I use and let it stay in my hand for about 1o seconds. Do you notice the oil at the sides? That oil smells of rich coconut oil which will hydrate your hair.
I have used this product about 6 times till now and each time it has left my scalp less itchy and my hair manageable and soft. I have run out of my stock of organic shampoos at the moment. I have been using it with Flying Fox by Lush now and I would be adding an update to the post about how the deep conditioner fares with the Rustic Art shampoo as well as the Soultree shampoo.
My hair gets dry and itchy in the winter season and I need to keep it moisturised very often using cream based conditioners and of course, oiling my hair regularly. I am sure this one will be absolutely perfect for use in the winter. Another way that I tried using this was post a shampoo, I took abut 2-3
pumps and applied to my hair and let it dry naturally, I think I used too much because my hair looked oily. I plan to use this again the same way, with less than a pump quantity and see how it fares.
This one is a must buy for those who want to tame the tresses. I am not sure how this will work on damaged hair and oily hair. You may need to use more of the conditioner and leave it in for a longer time if you have damaged hair for it to work well for your tresses. The only thing that I don’t like about the product is the packaging. I would have loved it if it was packaged in a tube because it would have made it easier to dispense the product. I need at least 6 – 8 pumps ( the quantity showed in the pic) of the conditioner to apply from the roots to the tips. Or maybe they should have a bigger pump head that allows more quantity to get dispensed.
Ingredients

Amazing Prats ! 🙂 The product indeed seems promising. However , I have a few queries. Firstly could it be liberally applied onto the scalp ? If yes , then for sure in winters it would be a hair saviour. Secondly , since I have got oily scalp and hair , do you think it would be a sensible choice in summers ? I use Rustic Art’s shampoo rarely ( since it has got cocamido propyl betaine ) , so please letme know how successful it proves with other shampoos . Anyways , felt great to see your post. Precise , informative and just 😀

Answering your queries:
1. the quantity you see in the pic is the quantity I use. I guess it will vary from hair to hair and of course on the length of the hair. You will need more quantity of you are applying it to dry hair. I prefer using it on wet hair because it spreads easily and you need less quantity of the conditioner.
2. For dry hair, it would suit in the summer and I willing to buy another bottle to see how it fares in the summer too:)
3. I have ordered for Soultree shampoo too, will let you know how it fares, but for now it worked amazingly well with Lush too.

Hey ! I did not get a notification for this reply 🙁 Just saw the reply . In the first query I intend to ask that whether it could be used for nourishing the scalp ( which is quite a neccesity in winters) along with hair ( that we usually use a conditioner for ) . Anyways good job , as always 😀
Pratibha says
Did I not reply?? I am certain I did! Yes I use it on the scalp too and it nourishes my hair really well. Just one point though, if you have oiled your hair, you may need t shampoo it first to rinse out the oil and then apply this and shampoo again. I tried that and it dried my hair because of two shampoo cycles 🙁 I have a feeling this is going to be awesome product to use in the winters!

Actually in your reply I could not find the word “scalp” , so I thought maybe you missed that point :p My Bad ! 😀 Btw is it USDA certified ? Their face washes are. I tried the neem and basil one. Its good for the “really oily ” ones , however other skin types may find it a lil drying. Actually one can attribute it to the presence of caustic lye ( I guess so ) . For example the skin becomes a lil tight post applying soap on the face ( soap also has lye ) , so I experienced a similar effect with this face wash. But yea its good for the oily skinned people. Anyways thanks for your response. I will surely give it a try ! 🙂

I just received a mail regarding the confirmation of my subscription. I think I had missed it last time ( or may be I had not received it last time) , due to which I could not see your reply to my query.

Pratibha says
Oops! Thanks for pointing out the error, corrected!
Shruti says
Most welcome 🙂
Anjali Pant says
hey ! Is it USDA certified ? And out of the above mentioned 3 ways , which one do you like the most ? Pre-shampoo ?
Pratibha says
Preshampoo, apply on wet hair and leave on for 5 mins. Follow it up with a shampoo! the USDA one is pending from my side, will send them a mail and let you know!
Anjali pant says
Thanks. If it is a USDA product , then the bottle will be having a USDA logo on it. Check ! 😀
Pratibha says
bah! Why did you not say that earlier! Checked. Hai thappa! USDA ORGANIC.! you made me walk all the way to my bathroom!
Anjali pant says
LOL ! I thought you must be knowing ! :p
Anyways , thanks a lot. This one is now surely in my list , will get back to you with my experience. Btw , happy running ! 😀
Pratibha says
Been a crazzzzzy week and a horrible crazy day, so please excuse!
Anjali pant says
Arey ! Not a prob at all ! :p

One question – what effect does it have on the volume and texture of hair ? Does it enhance/maintains the volume of hair ? And does it make your more lively by adding shine and lustre to it ?
Pratibha says
It makes my hair softer and shiny. I feel that my hair is really nourished post the usage.

Hi,
I am in search of a mild shampoo…from past few months i have huge hair loss and slight dandruff coz of winter, Have been using the Body shop, Prakriti herbals but dont see great results, intially sounds really great on my hair..now it doesnt work anymore 🙁
Could you please help me which to pick as i found the below through browsing and got to ur page and confused now .
Here is the list
Rustic Art – http://www.naturalmantra.com/personal-care/rustic-art-anti-hair-loss-kit/p-8545336-83660245443-cat.html#variant_id=8545336-83660245443
Soul tree Triphala Shampoo
Omved Purifying shampoo or Pre-Shampoo Deep Conditioner by Rustic Art.
Please advise.
Thanks
Pratibha says
First things firts, none of these shampoos lather. Pre-shampoo deep conditioner is not a shampoo, but a conditioner filled with the richness of coconut oil and other awesome things that deep condition your hair before you shampoo it. You can also mix this with your regualr shampoo and let aplly on the scalp. Let it stay for about 2 minutes before you wash off.
I have used just the shampoo with the Hair fall kit that you mention. If you have a dandruff issue, try this oil from Omved http://omvedstore.in/products/1695-sukeshant-hair-oil.aspx. Works effectively to battle dandruff. I have never used the Omved shampoos so I have no idea about the effectiveness, but I am told that they are awesome!
I dont know your hair type so I can’t really suggest what will work for you. Rustic Art and Soultree are mild shampoos and you can either buy the Omved range to get the complete hair care and buy the Omved oil and some other shampoo for a variation! Note if you are buying the Omved shampoo, opt for the conditioner too.
Or use the pre conditioner with the RA aloe shampoo.

Thanks for your inputs Prats, Your blog is amazing 🙂 and your reviews are unbiased n luv that.
Mine is a combination hair type (Oily to dry)
Anjali pant says
So apart from the Rustic Art’s shampoos , have you tried it with others ? Let me know your feedback.
Pratibha says
I have used it with the Soultree one and the Prakriti Herbals one till now. In both the cases it left my hair manageable. I am not sure how well it will perform in the summers though.
Anjali pant says
In the case of Soultree you mean the triphala one ? Were the results similar to that in the case of Rustic Art’s aloe vera shampoo ? And with Soultree , how many washes did you require ( while using it on the scalp in generous amount ) ?
Pratibha says
It dried my hair just a wee bit with the Triphala, worked best with the Rustic Art

Hi,
I have a query. Is the pre-conditioner easy to wash off? By any chance do your hair remain oily post washing it off?
Pratibha says
Its pretty easy to wash off. It doesn’t leave the hair oily
pragya says
Nice review dear. But I don’t think it will suit me as I have oily hair. Can you please suggest me some other organic conditioners? and also please suggest me organic shampoos that I can use. I have very thin and fine hair and and now it has become much more thin due to severe hair fall that I faced last year. So if you can then please please suggest me something to regain my lost hair. Any shampoo, conditioner, any natural remedy or whatever you want to suggest. Thanks in advance dear.
