For those of you who know me, you know the kind of importance I give to a massage. I like to use a variety of massage oils for the boys and more often than not they love to pick the oil when they want a massage. The not so latest addition to their range of massage oils is Omved Shishu Thailam. I have been using this for the past 3 months alternating it with the other oils that they have. I know loads of reviews are pending and I am going to get these reviews done with in the next few weeks!
I have been wanting to buy this oil for a long time, one because it is from my favourite brand and two I was looking at adding more variety to the massage oils! I cannot pinpoint to the fragrance of the oil, it smells strongly of filter coffee and strangely coffee is not one of the listed ingredients in it. I am sure the fragrance is something different, just that I cannot get the name right!
It has a lovely orange colour and gets absorbed into the skin easily. The only thing about this oil is that it stains, so I make the boys wear the old PJ’s and tees so that I am not too worried about the stains. It leaves behind a calming fragrance on the body that I quite love!
Why the boys love it!
My boys love getting a massage with this oil because they sleep really well post the massage. After an exhausting day (especially in the winters), this oil is ideal because it leaves the skin warm with the oil and it relaxes them completely. I feel the benefits of the oil because I am the one who gives the boys a massage and post the massage, the oil leaves my hands warm, tingly and relaxed. This oil actually doubles as a hair oil too but I find it more suited for a body massage. I prefer the Baal Kera Thailam (another product pending a review!) for the head massage.
This oil is best when you use it warm. You need to warm it in a copper vessel, but since I don’t have it, I warm it by placing the bottle in a vessel of hot water. Another alternative is to take a bit of the oil on he palm and rub the hands to warm the oil. Please remember that you should never ever heat the oil in a microwave because it loses its healing properties.
About the product – Omved Shishu Thailam
The Omved Shishu thailam is an Ayurvedic concoction that uses virgin coconut oil as a base and is packed with medicinally rich herbs like Ashwagandha, Manjishtha and Ushira. This massage oil also doubles as a hair oil and helps to ease colic, improve sleep, encourage weight gain, boost brain growth and alleviate symptoms of eczema and other milder skin ailments such as nappy rash.
Price and Availability
This 125 ml of oil is priced at INR 990, you can buy this from Flipkart as well as the Omved online store. You don’t need a lot of quantity of the oil for the massage, I use roughly a tablespoon for each use. As a mom, I think one of the last thoughts in my mind would be the cost of a product for my boys. It is a tad expensive yes, with that price you can get an armful of massage oils that have been used since years. But just take some time off and read that ingredient list of the commercial oils that have been in the market for so many years. Once you know what’s in it, chances are that as a mom, you won’t buy it again!
Organic products are good for you and the earth, when you are buying it, you are encouraging a better lifestyle for yourself and your family. For me this oil is already a part of the routine and the boys love it, so a rebuy is very much there!

Hi Pratibha,
Yours is one of the few sites I visit on a regular basis. I like your product reviews n your day articles.
I have twin boys as well..will be 5 yes old this May.
I was looking desperately for something for their terrible a topic dermatitis and came across your review above.
I want to give it a go though just one thing struck me as I read the details on the moved site.
It says its best for toddlers till they are 5 yes of age and that its good for ezcema
Should I consider the kera thailam instead? What’s s your opinion?

Hi! Thank you for your kind words! Ah twin boys! When is the birthday? My boys turn 5 in May too 🙂 the Omved Shishu Thailam is good for an overall massage. One of my sons has got very sensitive skin. And this is one of the oils that suited him really well. I don’t think it will be a problem if you continue using it later too. I have forwarded the query to the Omved team and I will share the response with you. Kera Thailam is a hair oil, I have that one too, but not reviewed.

Hi Pratibha’
Thank you for your quick response.
Yea i thought too that kera thailam is for the hair but the product description on the omved site said it can be used on the body too.
Anyways, I think i will give the shishu thailam a try.
My boys will turn 5 on the 28th of May. Both of them have had ezcema from the time they were 3 mnths.
It cleared up after a while n was completely gone by the time they were 2.
Now for the past 6 mnths they have had a severe flare up and are currently on oral and topical steroids .
Desperately looking for a remedy..
