In my life I have encountered two types of people; the morning people, and  the not-morning people. I oscillate between these types of people most of the times.

On some days, you’ll find me energized at 4 am in the morning, beavering away at work, getting my to-do list in order and checking them off as the day progresses.

On some days, I will have to literally drag myself out of the bed and get on with the day like chores are mundane and have to be done just for the heck of it.

5 morning rituals that can make you happy

No matter what type of a person you are, setting an intention and understanding that it is important to establish morning rituals can make your day more productive.

Many successful people claim that their morning ritual played a big part on the path to their success. If you are just starting out, it can be a tad difficult for you to follow these morning rituals, but once you make it a habit, things are really easy-peasy.

Here are things you can do that can keep your body healthy and your mind serene and happy; follow these morning rituals that can make you happy.

1. Drink Water

Did you know that water not just keeps your body hydrated but also flushes out the toxins? When you drink water as soon as you wake up, it sets your body in the hydration mode. Since you are asleep for 7 – 8 hours, drinking water helps to rehydrate and flush your system’s toxins out. If you are someone who is prone to headaches, make it a point to drink at least two glasses of water as you wake up.

2. Meditate


When you are grateful for things in your life, you invite happiness. When you pray and meditate, it helps you to reflect on your life and think about where you currently are. One of the most important aspects of meditation is gratitude. You set yourself in a space where you thank for things that you have in your life. Gratitude reflects abundance. And when you truly and consciously feel gratitude for things in your life, happiness becomes your companion.

3.  Connect with the nature

Even if you are not the nature person, try connecting yourself with the nature. A long walk in the park, a run or just get your fingers green by planting something in your garden. Grow a veggie patch or some of your favourite flowers. Being connected with the nature helps you feel grounded. There is something comforting about being in the nature, inhaling those natural fragrances, connecting with the earth and growing things.

4. Focus on yourself

Even if it is for five minutes in a day, focus on yourself. Love yourself, appreciate more, express gratitude and be kind to yourself.  When you choose to focus on yourself, you become the person you have always wanted to be. Make simple, yet doable changes in your life; choose  happiness over anger and gratitude over resentment. I do a small exercise that makes me change my perspective. I try to make a list of all the things that make  me happy and when I focus on it, I realize that I have no time for negativity.

5. Go for a run

There’s no doubt that a good hard run can make you feel great. Whether it’s for weight loss, to build endurance or to keep lifestyle diseases at bay, running is an excellent exercise that you can do without the need for any special equipment or location. Plus a run in the morning helps you clear the muddle in your mind and the fresh air can do wonders to your body and mind. When you run or exercise, it gets your blood flowing and removes the lethargy and grogginess that come with waking up. Did you know that exercise can helps to keep your heart and brain healthy, because it releases “feel good” chemicals that helps you tackle the day with more vigor. 

These are 5 morning rituals that can make you happy. It does take a lot of effort to ensure you give your happiness prime importance.
