We all love to eat fruits, but did you know that most fruits can also be used as scrubs. All that you need to do is set aside a portion of the fruit and mix it with a granular substance to make it exfoliate your skin well. I’ve made a list of a couple of scrubs and masks that can be used for different skin types for this monsoon.
When you use a scrub, remember the following :
- Scrubs should be used not more than twice a week.
- If you are using sugar, ensure that the granules are not very coarse. It should be just short of a fine powder consistency.
- Always wet your face with water before you use a scrub.
- Scrub your face only for the duration mentioned.
- After scrubbing, use a light moisturizer if you have a dry skin.
Strawberry scrub + Mask
Blend together 5-6 strawberries and the juice of a lime. Add a teaspoon of oatmeal to this paste. Apply of your face and massage gently for a minute or two. Leave it on for five minutes. Wash with luke warm water. This mask is suitable for all skin types.
Green Tea Mask
Take about two tablespoons of green tea and blend it in a mixer till it is a fine powder. Add a tablespoon of whipped yogurt in this and blend it again. Add to this a drop of your favourite essential oil or use it without the oil too. Apply this on your face and neck. massage for a minute and let it saty for 10 minutes. Wash off with warm water. This mask is suitable for all skin types.
Papaya Scrub
Papayas is one fruit that is available in abundance in monsoon. Take about 5-6 cubes of a papaya or a papaya slice. mash this with the back of a fork. Mix this with a teaspoon of brown sugar and slightly corase oatmeal. Apply this on your face and massage in circular motions. This scrub helps to clean the pores. Leave it on for about two minutes and wash off with lukewarm water. This is good for a dry to normal skin.
Orange Peel Scrub
Take about two tablespoons of powdered orange peels. I like to leave the consistency, just short of a very fine powder. Mix this with low fat milk till you get a thick paste and add the juice of half a lemon. Mix well and apply to the face and neck. Massage for about a minute and leave it on for 5 minutes. Wash off with cold water.
Lemon Scrub
Lemons are available all through the year. Take one tablespoon of lime juice. Add one teaspoon of honey to it and half a spoon of brown sugar. Mix well and apply this on your face and neck. Massage in circular motion. Massage gently till the sugar granules start melting. You can make this scrub in a larger quantity and use it as a body scrub too. This scrub also helps in lightening dark spots and blemishes. This is good for a dry to normal skin.
Banana Scrub
Take two tablespoons of mashed bananas and add to it a teaspoon of slim milk and two tablespoons of oats.If you feel that the paste is too think, add a spoon of honey to this. Mix it really well and apply on the face and neck and massage in circular motions for about two minutes. Leave on this pack for 5-6 minutes and wash it with lukewarm water. This scrub is suitable for sensitive skin.
