Forties may be the new twenties, but the twenties reference is apt when you know how to stay fit and healthy. Getting into shape doesn’t have to be chore just because you have hit the forties. It can be a time of fun and fitness that you can actually enjoy.
How to stay fit and healthy
Here is a list of simple doable activities that tell how to stay fit and healthy as your touch the forties. These are do-able and no matter what your age is, you can just follow these simple habits.
Make fitness a habit
If you have been someone like me, who has led mostly a sedentary lifestyle and the only exercises were walks, you need to start low and start slow. Don’t expect to run a half marathon within 10 days of beginning your fitness routine. When you start slow and maintain the pace, you can move into making fitness a habit and challenge yourself as you move ahead. Try a new exercise or go back to the basics. Don’t look for a quick fix as that is temporary.
Do some activity – don’t be a couch potato
I work from home and my Fitbit constantly reminds me to complete those steps. So I walk around the house, taking my calls or catching up on news or just taking that 5 minutes off to stretch myself. Another exercise I totally love is the 5 mile walk by Leslie Sansone.
Know your limits
You know your body and your limits. You don’t have to compare yourself with someone else; because their fitness journey is very different from yours. Simple exercises that allow you to stretch is what you need to build flexibility and reduce the risk of injuries. While it is good to push the limits, it is also important to know when you need to stop.
Keep a positive attitude
It is easy to sulk and wish that you were better than someone else, but it is far easier to work towards your fitness goals. All you need to do is envision a better version of yourself. Always focus on how you feel and how your clothes fit you rather than worry about the numbers that show on the weighing scale.
Chase the fatigue away
Once you reach the forties, your fitness levels are likely to lessen. You could be easily tired if you don’t lead an active life. Fatigue and low energy levels can be your constants! You need to eat and drink right. At times like these, when you are low on energy, you need to choose the right drink to keep you going. Ensure has been my go-to drink for over a year now. Did you know that just one cup of Ensure can help you when you’re tired and low on energy levels? Not just that it is packed with the necessary nutrients your body needs every single day.
It’s never too late to get in shape and reap the health benefits of physical fitness. It all begins with you! Once you know how to stay fit and healthy, the chore just becomes a habit! So what habit are you going to form if you have hit the forties?
