You need not opt for the expensive lip scrubs, instead you can make an array of home made lip scrubs with ingredients that are easily available. Home made lip scrubs are easy to make and most can be whipped up in a jiffy. Really. The ingredients are easily available at home and you don’t need to step out to buy anything, unless you want to try a very fancy lip scrub!
So here you go, follow these recipes to make your own home made lip scrubs and welcome soft and squeaky clean lips.
7 home made lip scrubs you must try!
1. Minty Lip scrub
This is one of my favourites and very easy to make. Take 5 teaspoons of granulated sugar (I also add quarter a teaspoon of salt sometimes) and 2.5 teaspoons of pure coconut oil or olive oil. Add one drop of your favourite essential oil and mix well and you are ready! Don’t forget to stock this in an airtight container and keep it is a cool place.
2. Coconut & Honey Lip Scrub
A yummy coconut and honey scrub that you will want to just scoop out of the jar! Mix one tablespoon of pure coconut oil with 2 tbsps of sugar and one tsp of honey. Mix well till it blends completely and store it in a glass bottle. When you want to use this, take the desired quantity and add to it half a teaspoon of warm water. Make it a slightly runny consistency and apply to the lips.
3. Oats and Clove Lip Scrub
Take 5 teaspoons of oats and two cloves. Run this in a grinder till it a smooth powder. Add to this a teaspoon of finely granulated brown sugar. Store this in a dry, airtight bottle. Mix this with honey or coconut oil to make a smooth paste and scrub on the lips.
4. Peppermint Lip Scrub
You can stock this one in an airtight container. In a dry glass jar, mix together 1/4 cup sugar, 1 teaspoon each of honey and olive oil/coconut oil and one drop of peppermint essential oil. Mix well till it resembles a coarse paste. Snap the lid and keep it in a cool place.
5. Cinnamon & Honey Home made Lip Scrub
Take a dry bowl and add to it 2 tablespoons brown sugar with 1/2 tablespoon each of olive oil and honey. Add to this a quarter teaspoon of finely ground cinnamon powder. Mix together with a dry spoon and store in an airtight container.
6. The Easy Peasy Lip Scrub
Mix one tablespoon of brown sugar ( use finely granulated sugar) with either olive oil or organic honey. It should be mixed just enough so that it sticks together. Once or twice a week, apply this scrub on your lips and massage gently to exfoliate the dead skin. Let it sit for 1 minute and wash off with a damp cloth. Always follow up with a lip balm.
7. Balmy Lip Scrub
Take a stick or jar of your favourite lip balm and mash it into a dry glass bottle. Add to this one tablespoon of brown sugar and a drizzle of organic honey so that it resembles a thick paste. You can also add to this ground almonds that will nourish the lips when you scrub it.
How to use the lip scrubs
Always apply the lip scrub with your fingertips and massage your lips very gently. Let the scrub stay for a minute and massage again for a few seconds to exfoliate the dead skin. Rinse with warm water or a damp wash cloth. Wipe your lips completely clean and always apply a lip balm.
Not only are these home made lip scrubs absolutely easy to make but they are also light on the pocket. You don’t need to spend a bomb on scrubs you buy off the shelf. What I love about my cool homemade lip scrubs is that I know what is in it. So which one are you going to try?
