What was your childhood dream? Or let’s move to now. Have you discovered what you are genuinely passionate about? Or are you still struggling to live a fulfilling life, wishing you had pursued your dreams to be happy? Did you choose to hold on to your dreams?
I had many dreams growing up. While they changed most times, one thing that struck me was that I loved to write. And some things unfolded in life growing up that made me believe my true passion was writing.
Like most people, I got sidetracked, and the lure of money made me do things I loved but needed to be more passionate about. I took a sabbatical when my twins were born, and after two years, I started writing again.
I don’t think that I have arrived at being 100% content in life, but I did realize that there were ways that I could hold on to my dreams and achieve what I wanted if I could focus on them.
Here is what I did.
How to hold on to your dreams
Here’s a secret I want to share. Turn time into a friend rather than an enemy. Catching and holding onto a dream is not helpful if you’re racing against a clock. Make time your ally, and let us find ways to use the hours of each day as a backdrop against which you can create a masterpiece upon masterpiece.
1. Identify your passion.
Ask yourself, “What do I love to do?”. Can you make money pursuing this passion? These two questions are interrelated, and when you know what you really love to do, following the passion will bring you the most satisfaction and motivate you towards your goals.
2. Share your talents with others.
Self-improvement is a continuous process. All of us have different skill sets. Identify your best abilities and be ready to help anyone who needs it. Also, be open to learning from others and their abilities. You are just adding to your knowledge and propelling yourself to move forward.
3. Develop goals.
Your goals don’t have to be complex. They can be simple enough but motivate you to keep you on your design path. Keep moving forward, and always have something in your life that inspires you to reach those goals.
4. Read.
Reading helps you get different perspectives and opens up a whole new world of imagination. Read magazines and newspapers to know what’s happening around you. Read novels from the latest authors. The more you read, the more you shape your personality. And you become more interesting to people.
5. Nurture the child within you.
Adulting comes with many responsibilities, but that does not mean you must let go of the child within you. Be curious. Maintaining a sense of curiosity, wonder, and adventure gives you a fresh perspective on the world around you.
6. Believe in yourself.
There is a reason that you have the abilities and talents you possess. It is for you to be able to make a difference in the world. Live every single day by practicing your passion. You will enjoy the journey, and stress will take care of itself.

Point 6, Belief in one’s self is the most difficult point to follow

I think that this comes with a lot of practice. We have been so tuned to negate ourselves that we judge ourselves too much. I have a simple task that I follow; whenever I have the imposter feeling creep up, I visit the testimonials I have on LinkedIn! Believe me, it is a reminder of all the good that I have done.
