5 best homemade natural scrubs to remove tan
HONEY, OATMEAL AND SUGAR SCRUB
Oatmeal is a wonderful skin cleanser. Take 5 – 6 tablespoons of oats and blend it to a fine powder. Add to this 2 teaspoons of fine brown sugar and 30 ml of honey. If you want the mix to be slightly runny, add rose water to it. Add two drops of your favorite essential oil. Scoop out and slather on your body to use as a body scrub to remove tan. I would recommend you to make a fresh batch of this scrub as and when you want to use. Don’t use the scrub more than twice a week.
AVOCADO, CURD & TURMERIC
Avocados are hailed as must haves in the diet of people aiming to eat healthy, due to the high concentration of healthy fats. But avocados are also high in Vitamin E, making this the perfect ingredient to moisturize and nourish dry skin. Choose a small-medium avocado that is fully ripe and soft. Mash the flesh with a quarter cup of honey, half a teaspoon of curd and mix well. Apply all over the face and neck and leave for 10-15 minutes. Wash off with cold water. You can also add in a teaspoon of olive oil for extra moisturizing.
TOMATO & SUGAR
Cut a ripe, yet firm red tomato in half and dip it in fine granules of brown sugar and the juice of half a lemon. Massage in circular motion on areas that are affected by tan. This works best on hard skin patches – elbows, knees and feet. If the sugar granules are not fine it can cause an abrasion on your skin, so use it on the rough patches of your skin only.
POTATO & LEMON JUICE
Potatoes have been long used to reduce the dark circles and even the skin tone. Packed with Vitamin C, it also helps to lighten the dark spots on the skin. Blend a potato and extract the juice. Add to this the juice of half a lemon, quarter a teaspoon of powdered orange peels, a dash of honey and half a teaspoon of rose water. Apply on the affected areas and let it stay for at least 30 minutes. When its completely dry, pat a bit of water to massage in circular motions. The orange peel powder will act as a scrub and gently exfoliate the dead skin as well as help to reduce the tan. Wash off with cold water. If you have dry skin, this scrub is likely to make your skin feel stretched. Use a good face oil or a light moisturiser to restore the elasticity and nourish your skin.
RICE & TOMATO JUICE
This is a competely vegan scrub so together two tbsps of rice flour, 1 tablespoon tomato juice, a pinch of turmeric and some rose water/honey/aloevera gel to make a fine paste. It should be a slightly runny mixture. Apply this on the face and neck, and let it dry for 10-12 minutes. Rinse with warm water or when its completely dry, pat a bit of water to massage in circular motions to let it act as a scrub. You can use this twice a week for best results. Rice flour also helps to lighten pigmentation.
