It is very common for me to face a lot of hair woes in winter. Apart from an itchy scalp and dandruff, my hair becomes dry and I have absolutely frightening hair-loss. One of the regimes that I follow not just in the winter, but all year around is oiling my hair. When one of favourite brands sent across their fast selling product, the Bhringraj and Methika Hair oil for a review, I was more than glad to use it for the winters.
Benefits of a head massage
The first whiff of the oil reminded me of an oil regime that I used to follow as a teenager. I used to heat the coconut oil and add a few fenugreek (methi) seeds to it to provide nourishment to my hair. It is strange how some aromas can trigger forgotten memories.
Coming back to the Bhringraj and Methika oil from Soultree, even though I was using it in the winter, I did not need to warm the oil before application. It had not solidified as normally hair oils would in the season. I took a liberal amount of the oil the first time and I used it as a coconut oil moisturizing therapy. For the consequent uses, I used just enough to nourish the scalp and I let the oil soak in overnight.
Two of the main ingredients in this healing coconut oil include bhringraj and methi seeds. Bhringraj is one of the most important and nourishing ingredients that is commonly used in hair care. Not only does it prevent premature greying of hair, but it also promotes hair growth and add some shine and volume to your hair. If you suffer from dandruff issues or itching and dryness of the scalp then, you need to use a hair oil with this ingredient to tackle the hair issues.
Methi or Fenugreek has been always been recommended for hair care as it helps to strengthen the hair roots. You can also soak half a cup of methi seeds overnight and grind to a smooth paste in the morning and apply as a hair pack to provide an extra nourishment to your hair.
When you have a combination of the two best ingredients in pure coconut oil, you can very well be sure that the oil will work wonders on your hair. I am the type who loves a head massage! I head to a salon at least twice a month to get a head massage done professionally. Apart from promoting a healthy scalp, the benefits of a head massage also include prevention of premature greying, renewing energy levels and complete relaxation that is more than welcome at the end of a tiring day. I have always preferred to let the oil soak in overnight for better results. I find that more nourishing that letting the oil stay for an hour or two.
About the product
Fresh extracts of Methika (Fenugreek), Bala, Aamla, Brahmi, and Bhringraj combined with virgin oils of Coconut, Almonds, and Grapeseed provide wholesome hair nourishment. Regular use strengthens roots, reduces hair fall and makes hair healthy and bouncy.
How to use
Apply warm onto your scalp and hair. Keep for at least an hour before shampooing with the SoulTree Triphala or Licorice shampoo to clear the oily residue.
Price, Shelf Life and Availability
Priced at INR 345, you can buy this oil from Flipkart. Priced at INR 350, this 120 ml bottle is packed with the health benefits that your tresses need. I have been using this every alternate day for the past fortnight and I have noticed less dryness in the scalp and significantly lesser hair-fall.
One bottle with regular application of at least thrice a week will last you approximately 3 months if you have shoulder length hair, that makes it roughly INR 100/month. That is not a bad deal if you want to rejuvenate and protect your tresses.

Hi pratibha,
My hair tends to become exceptionally dry during winter. (Static electricity becomes high too?) My favorite way to combat this is to apply pure coconut oil in a small amount right after a bath. It leaves your hair feeling well conditioned and glossy.

Winter is somehow my most dreaded month for hair. My skin gets dry as well, but my hair… it is a different story altogether. A head massage sounds wonderful, but having babies and business means I no longer get any time for my hair. However, back when I was single, I used to have a defined regimen for my hair, one which I plan to revive soon.
There were two homemade packs I would use. I would first have a hot oil massage on Saturday night. Then on Sunday morning, I would apply a pack on my hair which was made by grinding soaked methi seeds into a paste. I would leave that pack on for an hour and then wash my hair as usual.
Then on the next Sunday, I would use this pack. 1 hibiscus flower (jaswand) and 2 tbsp yoghurt. I would blend them both into a lovely pink paste. Even hibiscus leaves do fine if you don’t find the flower, but grind fine into a chutney like paste.
I would leave it on for an hour, and wash as usual. My hair would look shiny, and feel soft all through winters.
Trust me this remedy always works!

My winter hair woe is dry and itchy scalp, and brittle hair. No matter how often I wash my hair, it is dry and flaky by the next day. To counter it, I take a hot oil massage with a combination of olive, coconut, and almond oils with a few tulsi and kadi patta (Curry) leaves in it. If my hair seems especially lifeless, I also add the liquid from Vitamin E capsules to give it an extra boost. I leave this on my hair for about an hour or two , and then wash it off with a mild creamy shampoo, and conditioner. This regimen keeps the hair soft and well conditioned, and the scalp free from irritants.

Looks like almost everybody here have the same woes. My hair becomes very very dry too and get tangled so badly that I dread the times when I have to comb my hair. Esp given that we mostly go out on a winter vacation almost every year, the travel with the wind breezing by just adds to the woes. I stick to oiling my hair very religiously during winter time and leave it overnight. I use pure coconut oil. The two packs I use for conditioning are – 1) soaking methi overnight and grinding it with coconut and water the next morning. I apply it on my hair and leave it for about an hour before washing it off. 2) Hibiscus leaves, methi powder and curd. Grind, apply on hair and leave it for an hour or more.
Everybody at home has become a fan of their shampoos and I am very very thankful for their kajal too. Look forward to trying out this oil now. Thanks for the review 🙂

my hair is naturally dry…and in winter it becomes even more dry… so my winter care tip 1: is using every Wednesday warm sesame seed oil with green tea and a 4 to 5 drops of lemon and i’ll massage it for 5 or 10 minutes and i’ll wash it off and later 2: every Sunday i make a hair pack using banana and honey but before that mask i’ll massage my hair with coconut oil… otherwise it makes even more dry…

My hair goes really dry in the winter. Banana mask is what I use combat it. Mash a ripe banana well (use a food processor if you like, to make sure there aren’t any chunks), apply it to your hair and cover it with a plastic cap for 20 minutes. Shampoo and rinse well. Bananas are a rich source of potassium and vitamins A, E, and C.
Have liked Soultree on FaceBook as I do like their products.

Hey Prats, Firstly wanna wish u Happy new year! Trust u are doing well.
Grt to hear about Bhringraj and Methika oil from Soultree, Have been hearing a lot about this product, will get this for sure 🙂
Winter woes which I follow are, Methi powder soaken overnight in yoghurt, coconut oil 1 tsp, olive oil 1tsp and I add egg white in the morning, whisk it properly for a good blend before applying it to the hair and leave it for an hour and wash it off and i Make sure that i apply oil for my hair the previous night. (My regular regime is I take equal quantity of coconut oil and olive oil and heat it and add 2- 3 garlic pcs and apply the hot oil to my hair. This helps to control hair fall and gives a soothing massage effect to my hair). After the hair wash I soak a towel in hot water and remove the excess water from it and cover it on my hair for around 3 to 4 mins, this really helps me in winter and been following it from childhood 🙂 My hair secret ;).
Thank you !

My winter hair is Itchy Dry Scalp. Dry, flaky scalp is uncomfortable and just a wee bit embarrassing, too. Before hopping in the shower, massage the scalp with Vitamin E, olive, or coconut oil. These oils replenish natural scalp oils and can moisturize dry hair, too . Tea tree oil is also a popular treatment for fungal and bacterial infections like dandruff or athlete’s foot. Wash the hair and scalp with tea tree oil daily to cure a dry, itchy head naturally.
wish to win 🙂

Hello 🙂 Thank you for the giveaway. I have an itchy scalp and dry hair during winters. I use coconut oil in which I have added some neem leaves. Heat the oil with Neem leaves in it and apply when it has cooled down. It helps my hair as neem is a natural disinfectant and oiling solves the dry hair issues. 🙂

My winter hair woe is that my hair tends to get dried out, so I use Moroccan Oil to help with it. I work Moroccan oil through the ends of my wet hair, avoiding the roots as this will make your hair look greasy.
